I'm glad you all liked the photo of the creme donut. Next time I'll buy enough for everyone.

Pk and I got up and went out for brunch Sunday morning before heading to the grocery store to forage for food. I felt like someone had beaten me up, all sore and tired, but I soldiered on.

Monday I got up and went to work and my throat hurt, my head and ears hurt, my throat was sore and I felt feverish. Ick. I made it through the morning and then left early to go home and crash.

And that's what I've been doing since then. Crashing. I wake up in the morning, shower, eat and take a nap. Then I wake up, eat some more, take a nap. I make dinner and then get ready for bed. If I were covered in fur, I'd be a cat!

I called out of work Tuesday and today and found out today that we have a new policy. Anytime an employee is out for 3 days ( I think technically, my third day should be tomorrow but they counted Monday since I took half a day), HR is notified and a letter is sent home which has to be filled out and signed by the primary care physician and brought back. If they decide that yes, indeed, this person has been truly sick, it won't count as an occurrence. It makes me feel like a kindergartener bringing in a note from my mommy. I didn't go to the doctor because I have a cold. Colds do not always necessitate a visit to the doctor. I don't want antibiotics and I have some cough syrup so I'm good. Fortunately, my doctor is a good guy. I'll call tomorrow and ask if he'll sign the paper. Once he hears my voice, he'll sign. I sound terrible. So, my supervisors told me I might as well take the rest of the week and get really well (I was intending on going back tomorrow) since I had to fill out the form anyway. Just another hoop to jump through.

Em met with a thoraxic (I know this is spelled wrong but for the life of me I can't figure out how to spell it right now) surgeon today. They can't make a date for the procedure until they're sure what the growth is. Since there is a chance it's a form of cancer, they have to wait for the test results to come back and that may take a little time. Needless to say, we are all anxious for this to be over with. Especially since I had to go and google the type of cancer and it's scary.

I am hoping to have some more energy tomorrow and maybe get some spinning or knitting done. Right now, I keep falling asleep in the chair. Not conducive for being productive.

I hope you feel better soon.

HR depts are getting out of control. Three times now Chris has used 2 weeks of vacation days after we've had a baby. Only for the third baby did he have to fill out Family Medical Leave paperwork. Apparently it's law, even though he used vacation time. So *I* had to bring it to my OB, even though it was for Chris's employer. Weird.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I can't believe workplaces still try and control people the way they do. Don't they realise that adults respond to be trusted and treated with respect. When treated like children people usually respond accordingly. Can you tell what one of my pet peeves is?

Hope you feel better soon. Sounds like a miserable bug.

Nicole has been studying up on Em's possible diagnoses in her nursing book and trying to explain them to me. Hopefully they'll know something definite soon so the waiting can end.

Hugs and healing thoughts.

Bless your dear heart, and respiratory system! What kind of people do they hire that they need to oversee you like that? Are they expecting everyone to be boozing youths who will take Fridays off to party and Mondays off to nurse their hangovers? Honestly! People who make the rules for employees need to know who their employees are. You poor dear. You may as well just stay home till you're well. No point in sharing this with your co-workers and clients after all. More nice warm naps and lots of refreshing fluids.

If it were me I'd bill the HR department for my co-pay... but then I'm Contrary and Difficult, according to my husband.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Dear Donna,

I hope you feel better soon. ALl the stress you've been under has probably not helped things. Em's prognosis sounds good, best of luck with all of of it.

Back to your earlier post about dyeing your hair: Isn't it a quandary? I've been going with semipermanent in a shade that is progressively less and less "rich" in the hopes that it doesn't look fake, I hate seeing older women with the "helmet head" look of a solid dye that is obviously not her own color. But there is a woman at work who has gone to auburn and it looks fabulous. I didn't know it wasn't her natural color. I pull my hair back, so roots are the issue.

Ah, well. Life goes on.

Sick time policies drive me crazy - they are always so painfu. I hope you feel better soon, and get a chance to knit!

I'm still keeping fingers crossed for Em - hoping that it turns out to be nothing and that it resolves soon.

Happy Sunday!  I am sitting here working on my sweater made with the cashmere yarn my husband gave me for my birthday last year. I’m further...
