Since I was up early this morning and was blog reading for the first time in a while, I got reminded that today was the 14th. Time for A Day In The Life. So, here goes.
I woke up alone in the bed at around 8 am. To be alone in the bed is not abnormal. Pk wakes up very early every morning but he is often sitting at the computer so I am not alone in the room. Today, it was silent. Strange. I got up and showered. I had some errands to run and wanted to get a somewhat early start.
Breakfast was a cream donut. You might want to look away if you are a health food person because on the list of unhealthy foods, this is right up there. This, my friends, is a cream donut from a local bakery called McMillan's. It is a thing of such deliciousness that I throw calorie counting to the winds in order to eat it. I had a large glass of milk so there was some nutrition. Just not much.
I recently got the notice that it was time to renew my drivers' license so I was off to the dmv (division of motor vehicles). It's a lovely public building filled with charm (not!). However, they are efficient. Even though it was a Saturday morning and they were busy, it took only about 10 minutes to take care of my business. Not even enough time to do much knitting. Next on the list was Rite Aid to pick up my prescriptions. I spent a lot of money on chemicals to help keep my blood pressure down, my stomach acid down and my thyroid levels down. Sigh. I am grateful to live in a time when these chemicals are available but I wish they didn't cost so much.
I tried to get my hair cut but my stylist wasn't in until 2 so I went home and found these in the front yard. The first of the crocuses survived the 10 inches of snow of a week ago and are blooming. Spring may be coming at last. We are looking at temps in the 40's this week (4's C) and rain so it will still be cold. Hope spring eternal.
Peter Kevin came home from his trip to Maryland where he bought some planes, two mortises and a router plane. No, I don't know what most of it is, but he says he got a good deal. I can't think of too many deals that are worth getting up at 3 am and driving for 2 1/2 hours for, but he is happy.
Since it was after 2, I headed to the hair salon which is located in the local mall to get my hair cut. I had to wait a few minutes but it wasn't too bad. Of course I had some knitting so it was not time wasted. After that, I briefly considered going grocery shopping but decided I wasn't in the mood and I'll go tomorrow (I doubt I'll be in the mood then either but I won't have as much choice, I'll have to go).
I came home and put some more clothes in the washer and went back to work on this. This is the toe of a sock that I have been working on since Thursday. It's the Garden Path pattern. When I got my sock roulette sock, I tried it on and it's too small for my wide foot. I was sad because I really like the pattern. I had Kate try it on her skinny feet and it fits perfectly so she will make the second one and have a pair. I decided to find some yarn in the stash and make a pair for me. Since the first one was too small, I went up a needle size and used size large. After one pattern repeat, it was obviously too large. So, rip, rip, rip and start over . I use the larger size needles but make the medium. Still too large. So rip, rip and start over with the smaller needles but the size large. The size looks good but halfway through the first repeat I k2tog'd when I should have ssk'd and it was obvious. Sigh. Rip, rip and after 2 days, I am still at this point. It's a good thing I really like this pattern. I'm going to try again when I finish this post.
It's only 4 pm but the rest of the day will be very low key. I'm thinking scrambled eggs for dinner with some toast and then a quiet evening. Pk is tired after his adventure and will probably go to bed early and so will I. After all, I have to get up and go grocery shopping tomorrow.

Glad I didn't know I was supposed to share my day today. I'd feel badly about not doing much! You were incredibly productive. Must have been the dounut. Health food is in the eye of the beholder, I find...
heh, clearly the donut was the reason you got so much done!! Sometimes you just have to have the naughty foods, don't you!
Thanks for sharing your day - I do love the insights into people's lives it gives!
That donut looks wonderful. My vice for the day was Coldstone Creamery ice cream.
oh my Lord. What a fabulous donut. I couldn't look away!
Such a quick turn around to get your license. I queued for an hour or more last time I went!
Oh wow... something that heavenly can't POSSIBLY have calories! *smirk* Sounds like a Saturday--but a good one! (I should get my hair colored---I SHOULD!
Total bummer on the Roulette sock, but I figured when I started it, the socks were all bound to fit someone. But still. Bummer.
AND HOLY COW THE DONUT!!! That's not a donut. That's... that's... holy cow. There's a place in Ohio that does cream puffs in a similar over-the-top style, and I've said for decades they need to get the Ohio State physics department down there to figure out how a half-pound cream puff turns into three pounds on the butt. Still, sometimes you just gotta eat one. Yum.
That donut is clearly merely a vehicle for conveying cream to the mouth. Yum,yum, yum!!! Sounds like a wonderful day! Things accomplished, knitting for the waits, and solutions to the problems.
Thank God for modern medicine. And hooray for PK's finds and deals. It's worth getting up at oh-dark-thirty to get a great plane.
That donut looks so good - sometimes you just have to have a donut! Sounds like a very busy day - hope today was a little more relaxing!
I've never seen such a yummy-looking donut!
OK. When that donut picture loaded, I was like, what the heck is that? Some kind of sheep fluff? I'm still not believing you on the donut thing either. In fact, I am going to go get some family right now so we can all look at that thing.
OK. We had show and tell around here, for that donut. We even embiggened. (Cuz it needed embiggening...)
