Four pieces of wood, each over 7 feet long, are sitting in my driveway.  Yesterday morning Jim and Pk went to bring the tree home.  They discovered they couldn't pick it up even after it was cut in half.  So they cut it in quarters and were able to get it into the truck.  You should have felt the vibrations as those pieces of wood hit the ground.
You can see the board he cut out of one quarter. Kate is holding the measuring tape.  It has to dry out some before it can be cut and shaped.  If you look really close, you can see the spinning wheel there in the wood.  Pk spent all day Sunday cutting out the useable portions of wood.  The left over sections that won't be good for making anything will be offered to our neighbors who have smokers.  We figure they might like some hickory for when the start smoking meat next summer.  And then they can continue to drive us crazy with all the good smells first thing on Saturday morning.

Today was a "hit the ground running" kind of day.  The phone was ringing and there were people who needed things all day.  I am thinking it's the full moon we had last night.  When I was in college, I worked in our peer counseling center (named the Drop In Center), a 24 hour/7 day a week place where people could get information or just talk.  We kept a log book of all the calls and the nights the moon was full had more calls.  No one wanted to do those overnights!  It's the place I learned to come awake quickly because when the phone rang, you had to answer it and sound awake.  I loved volunteering there and it's probably responsible for me being in the line of work I'm in now.

So, I think I'm the last person in the world not on Facebook.  Pk informed me that today he signed up.  When I asked why?  He said "to keep up with the kids".  What happened to phone calls?  Or emails?  I feel the shadow of the Facebook creeping up on me.  I have no real desire to join but I'm feeling the pressure.

Today's happy things.  Looking out my window at work and seeing a flawless blue sky.  It looked like it went on forever.  Seeing an old friend at the train station.  Listening to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  This has become one of my new favorite books.  I'd been waiting to get it at the online library and I'm so glad I was persistent.  If you've got the chance, read it.  Or better yet, listen to it.  The wonderful voices and accents just blew me away.  What a terrific story.

Well, I'm off to find my recipe for Sloppy Joes.  Then it's knitting and then bed.  Since it gets dark earlier and earlier, I feel like going to bed earlier and earlier.  Some nights, it's a struggle to make it to 10!  And Daylight Savings Time doesn't start her for another month.

I hope you are all having (or had) a good Monday.  See you tomorrow.

Okay, ma'am, I just put a hold on the book. I believe I am #130.

I'm not on Facebook either. I signed up and un-signed about five minutes later. It was too...MUCH. Besides, I hear too many stories about reconnecting with people from high school. I'd rather stick nails in my eyes.

It was a very weird sort of day here, too. Against all odds, the kids in my class behaved themselves. It might be the end of the world as we know it...

I've also been feeling the Facebook pressure. I have mixed feelings about it since I don't really want to find people from my past. But I sort of feel left out without an account! I may end up taking the plunge.

ah facebook. i am on it too to keep up with my friends, but i locked it down so no one from school could find me! like amy, i would rather do the nail thing than talk to THEM. it is kind of fun tho, if you just do a little bit. and i have been meaning to read that book for ever, now you have persuaded me!

My 82 year old grandmother is on Facebook. No pressure!

Love the tree-to-wheel series you have going on here. I wish Dr. MS would get a cool hobby!

You are not the last. I'm not on Facebook either. It took me a long time to join Ravelry too. I think it's because I prefer internet stuff to be openly public and that is how I conduct myself online. It seems (some) people get in trouble on Facebook because they act like they are in a private space with friends but they aren't. But I am thinking about joining (maybe one of my dogs can join!) because some friends share their photos that way. I wish they could just use Flickr instead.

I've found that you can limit your FB time - you don't have to do all the quizzes and that guff, and you don't even have to do regular updates or anything. And if you don't put much info about yourself on there (like, not an identifiable picture of yourself) that makes it harder for people to find you. But no pressure - if you don't want to do it, don't!

yep fb is definitely something you can manage and control more than many people realise. It's certainly got its drawbacks but it's a nice way to keep up with people who you maybe don't get to see often and don't necessarily want to have lengthy or involved contact with. Or not.

The wood is FABULOUS!! Hooray for PK! I see a spinning wheel, and maybe a workbox in there.

Full moons unquestionably are crazy times. And season changes accelerate the madness.

Hey, I just snuck onto Ravelry. No way am I going to Facebook yet. There are newborns that will be on facebook before I am.

Oh, yeah, that will smell good, all right!

I know what you mean about the darkness. When we used to go camping on vacation, the darkness would send me right to sleep.

Well, hello friend. It’s almost Hallowe’en and I am looking forward to it.   this year we have a new addition to our family.  Well, actually...
